The Pilot Shaker H-1010 is a mechanical pencil built around an alternative way to advance the lead: instead of clicking the top button, you shake the pencil, and an internal weight inside the barrel moves back and forth to push the lead forward automatically. That means you can keep advancing lead mid-sentence without lifting your hand off the page or breaking your grip to reach for a button. The standard top push-button advance still works too, so you're not locked into using the shake mechanism if you'd rather not.

The lead sleeve is a fixed 4 mm pipe, the format typically used with straightedges, rulers, and drafting templates, since the longer guide keeps the lead visible right up against the edge you're tracing. Inside, the advance clutch is metal rather than plastic, which holds up better to repeated use over time, and the barrel has a ribbed rubber grip section for control.
