The Pilot Parallel 1.5 mm is a calligraphy fountain pen built around a parallel-plate nib instead of a traditional split nib. The tip is formed from two thin, flat metal plates set parallel to each other, which spreads ink evenly across the full width of the nib. Because of this, the pen lays down a clean stroke at almost any angle, without the scratching or skipping that can happen with a conventional nib at speed.

At 1.5 mm, this is the narrowest pen in the Parallel series, producing a 1.5 mm broad down-stroke and a 0.5 mm hairline on the edge — suited to fine italic lettering, detailed flourishes, and smaller-scale calligraphy work. The pen is cartridge-fed using a gravity-flow system, and the ink is mixable: touching the nib of this pen briefly against another Parallel pen filled with a different ink color blends the two on contact, allowing for color-graded strokes. It ships with a cleaning bulb and a starter ink cartridge, and is fitted with a red screw-on cap that matches the internal accent frame. For lettering work that calls for a bolder stroke, the Pilot Parallel 2.4 mm lays down a wider down-stroke from the same parallel-plate nib design.
