The Caran d'Ache Technograph 3mm refill leads are premium replacement graphite leads for the Fixpencil 3mm clutch pencil and any standard 3mm lead holder. Each lead is formulated with high-density extra-pure refined Swiss graphite, engineered to minimize crumbling while delivering consistent, uniform line quality from first stroke to last. The extra-thick 3mm diameter provides strong break-resistance under sustained drawing pressure and produces a bolder, broader mark suited to expressive studio work, large-format drawing, and confident layout sketching.

Available in three grades covering a wide range of applications. HB is the balanced universal grade for general studio layout, product sketching, and daily note-taking. 3B is a soft, richly saturated grade that blends freely for portrait shading, tonal gradient work, and bold architectural layouts. 6B is the softest and darkest grade in the range — an ultra-expressive lead for life drawing, deep shadow coverage, gestural sketching, and dramatic value building at scale. Six leads per pack, each 120mm long.

FAQ
  • Which grade should I choose? HB suits general layout work, note-taking, and studio wireframes. 3B is the choice for portrait shading, tonal drawing, and expressive line work where blendability matters. 6B is for maximum darkness and gestural freedom — life drawing, deep shadow rendering, and large-format expressive work.
  • What is the 3mm format best suited for? The 3mm diameter produces a broader, bolder mark than finer lead formats — well suited for expressive studio work, large-format drawing, and confident gestural sketching where a wider line and stronger break-resistance are the priority.
  • Are these compatible with lead holders other than the Fixpencil? Yes. The 3.0mm diameter is a standard technical dimension, making these leads universally compatible with any 3mm lead holder.
  • Do the softer grades crumble during use? The high-density Swiss graphite formula is specifically engineered to minimize crumbling across all grades — including the extra-soft 6B — maintaining structural integrity under normal drawing pressure.
