On the hard end, 4H and 3H produce ultra-faint, pale silver guidelines ideal for engineering maps, master blueprints, and precision layout grids that need to remain nearly invisible under final inked work. 2H and H suit architectural drafting, technical cross-hatching, and geometric line work where a clean, smudge-free line is essential. F is a firm intermediate grade between HB and H — holding a sharp point over prolonged use, well suited for detailed script writing, bookkeeping, and fine-line structural layouts. HB is the universal balanced anchor, covering everyday writing, general note-taking, studio layout design, and foundational wireframes. Moving into the softer grades, B delivers a slightly richer, more fluid line than HB for figure studies and preliminary sketching. 2B is the go-to for traditional artistic drawing, portrait gradients, comic book shading, and bold dark contour work. 3B is the softest and darkest grade in the range — an extra-soft, charcoal-like lead for deep shadow rendering, rich tonal illustration, and loose gestural sketching where maximum blendability and tonal depth are the priority.

FAQ
- Which grade should I choose? Hard grades (4H–2H) suit precision technical drafting and faint layout guidelines. H and F are for clean technical line work and detailed writing. HB is the universal all-purpose grade. B and 2B suit artistic drawing and portrait work. 3B is for maximum tonal depth, deep shadow rendering, and expressive gestural sketching.
- What is the 2mm format best suited for? The 2mm diameter offers a wide grade range and fine line output — well suited for technical drafting, precise writing, and detailed artistic work across the full hardness spectrum from 4H through 3B.
- Are these compatible with lead holders other than the Fixpencil? Yes. The 2.0mm diameter is the standard technical drafting dimension, making these leads universally compatible with any 2mm lead holder on the market.
- Do the softer grades break easily? No. The high-density refined Swiss graphite composition provides strong break-resistance across all grades — including the softer 2B and 3B — maintaining structural integrity under normal drawing and writing pressure.
